The proportion of Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) users on mobile hit 54% in the last one month, a recent report states. This is a 3% increase from the last quarter.
Additionally, it is also reported that the frequency of log on and the general activities on the site is almost the same for both mobile users and desktop users. Indeed, about two-thirds of users visit Facebook in both cases, and take an average of 50 minutes on the site.
The growth is; however, one sided. Most of the new users have come from parts of the world where mobile phone is the primary method of internet connectivity. These are majorly areas outside Europe and North America where household broadband is not commonplace.
In the last three months of 2016, Facebook added 71 million users who accessed the site on mobile phone devices only. This statistic is worth a million words, giving an insight of the continued growth of the social media market leader outside its core customer base, which is Europe and North America. Facebook welcomes this move, and it has set up plans to continue making its mobile app even more user friendly to encourage mobile access to its site.
Facebook has been quick to realize that most of its customers are using mobile phones to access the site, and it has reacted by making its mobile phone app more fully-featured. By so doing, even those who previously accessed the desktop version will be comfortable with the mobile phone version.
With this important milestone, what is the future? Facebook is keen on putting more focus on mobile phone access. The mobile phone app industry is growing exponentially, and Facebook is making collaborations with topnotch mobile-based companies like WhatsApp.
Facebook mobile ads business is also a booming a business, having recorded earnings of $5.2 billion in the previous quarter. Indeed, the future is bright, as long as the company continues to emphasize on mobile phone access.
